Light Painting, Fireworks, and Summer Fun – An Activity for Kids (Grown-Up Kids too)

Fireworks have a such a magical feel for children and grown-ups alike. We look forward to that grande finale, but then are a little bit sad when the celebration ends.

One of my nephews’ favorite activities, Light Painting, continues the fun throughout the year! In preparation for photographing fireworks and as a “Grande Finale” to my summer enrichment class, we always celebrate with Light Painting. The students learn to set their cameras to their Fireworks, Long Exposure, or Manual Modes to extend their shutter time and let the fun begin.

They enjoy writing messages,

and, this year’s all time favorite, creating “Balls of Light!”

I highly recommend experimenting with Light Painting. It’s a great indoor and/or outdoor activity for the whole family!

I hope you are enjoying your summer!

Psst…The Balls of Light were inspired by photographer Denis Smith.

Totally worth googling when you have a chance 🙂
